January

  • New paper alert. Our work with Ilana Brito’s lab characterizing de novo sphingolipid synthesis in Prevotella copri is out at mBio. Congratulations Henry, Min-Ting and Sharon!

November

  • New paper alert. Our work with Toly Aydemir’s lab addressing how the function of Zinc transporters affects gut microbial communities is out at AJP-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology. Congratulations Min-Ting, Janine, and Blake!

  • Dr. Sharon Thompson joins the lab after completing a PhD in Microbiology and Cell Science at University of Florida. Welcome Sharon!

  • Dr. Yujin Lee joins the lab from Postdoctoral work in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Chungbuk National University College of medicine and Hospital (Korea). Welcome Yujin!

  • Muying Li is the first MS in Nutrition to graduate from the Johnson Lab. Congratulations Li!!!

  • Zhongqian Li - our fearless DIAPER cohort app team leader - graduates with his Masters in Engineering. Congratulations Zhongqian!!

  • Paula passes her A-exam with flying colors!! Congratulations Paula!

  • Liz is selected for the inaugural class of HHMI Freeman Hrabowski Scholars. This big achievement for the lab was covered in the Cornell Chronicle and Forbes.

  • Liz is selected as the inaugural Schwartz visionary grant recipient. We are so honored and thankful for the support from the Schwartz Fund.

2021

DECEMBER

  • Paula Banuelos joins the lab from the Graduate Field of Biomedical and Biological Sciences. Paula will be studying gut microbes that modify dietary choline to create choline-derived metabolites that impact host health. Welcome Paula!


OCTOBER

  • Liz delivers the 2021 NIH NIGMS Judith Greenberg Early Career Lecture - “Looking for Lipids in all the right places”

  • Paula Banuelos and Maya Craig from the graduate field of Biomedical and Biological Sciences are rotating in the lab. Welcome Paula and Maya!


SEPTEMBER

  • BOSSS is featured as the Technology of the Month in Trends in Biochemical Sciences. Congratulations to Min-Ting for an excellent write up and to Henry for all his hard work on this project.


AUGUST

  • The lab is awarded an equipment grant from NIH NIGMS for a flow cytometer to continue to develop the BOSSS methodology. Thankful and excited to ramp up the efforts on this project.


JUNE

  • The lab is back to our home sweet home - Biotech 303. Glad to be back and thankful for an amazing lab and all the people who facilitated the massive amount of work it took to restore the space.


MAY

  • Janine Comrie joins the lab from the Graduate Field of Nutrition. She will study how dietary long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids interact with the gut microbiome. Welcome Janine!

  • Min-Ting successfully passes her A-exam! Honored to have our first official PhD candidate in the lab.

  • Dr. Henry Le moves to become a research scientist at Hexagon in sunny Palo Alto, CA. We will miss you Henry!


APRIL

  • Liz is named a CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar in the Humans and the Microbiome Program!


FEBRUARY

  • Lab relocated to a new space due to a ceiling flood. Amazing job by the team wadding through the debris and getting us moved in no time.
